Linguistics takes different shapes and forms, all focusing on understanding the structure of human languages, how language is represented in the brain, how language is used, and how it shapes the human experience. We have expertise in different subfields of linguistics, including language documentation, theoretical linguistics, neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics, computational approaches to linguistics, African languages and linguistics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition/bilingualism, and language teaching. We are also home to several labs that do cutting-edge research and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students at all levels, from undergraduate to graduate.
